The Ari newspaper was the longest running student run Jewish newspaper in the United States. Several years ago the newspaper went inactive.
Last year The Ari has been revived as a Jewish Magazine that serves the University as well as the larger Buffalo Jewish community.
Positions are available for Editors, Writers and Photographers. The Ari features articles, current events, advice columns, movie reviews, local Synagogue information and spotlight Jewish culture in general. Distribution points include the University, local synagogues and Jewish locations in Buffalo. The Ari staff gets college credits of independent study for working on The Ari.
Important aspects of Jewish life have always been to have purpose and appreciate our great and valuable traditions. Now more than ever it is imperative to present our Jewish community, young and old alike, with the things we have to be proud of, the things that bring us together, the things that sustain us as Jews.

FALL 2009
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE: The course focuses on the ARI print and online publications. ARI is the voice of Jewish Students at the University at Buffalo and addresses the entire community as well. As writers you will be required to submit articles on topics of your choice or that are assigned by the editors. Topics for articles must be approved by the editors. Articles should be approximately ½ to 2 pages in length.
GRADING: The students grade will be determined by the following criteria:
Student writer, photographers and editors are expected to attend all meetings, as well as to meet with the advisor from time to time regarding their submissions. All articles must be submitted by the deadlines as assigned by the editors. As a journalist the quality and seriousness of your writing will affect your grade. All submitted work should be coherent and attentive to good grammar and basic writing abilities. As a journalist, your integrity plays a vital role in the formation of articles. Please review the University of Buffalo's policy regarding integrity. Any student writers who violate UB's academic integrity policy will automatically fail the course and face other (see below) possible action by the University. Needless to say, there is no expectation that this kind of policy will need to be enforced. It is stated here as a precaution.
